Frequently asked questions

What data sources do you cover?

California State Controller (all 10 employer types, 2009-2024), CalPERS employer rates, SCO Financial Transaction Reports, CDE SACS (K-12 fiscal data), and BLS OEWS market benchmarks.

How often is data updated?

SCO data is imported within 2 weeks of each annual release. CalPERS rates are updated when new actuarial reports are published. We notify subscribers via webhook when new data is available.

Do you sell directly to agencies?

No. CalComp Data is B2B only — we sell exclusively to consulting firms, law firms, unions, and HR departments. We are contractually committed to not competing with our subscribers.

What does 'data infrastructure only' mean?

We provide the raw and classified data. You apply your firm's methodology, produce your deliverables, and maintain your client relationships. Zero liability transfer.

Can I use my own position classifications?

Yes. The custom taxonomy crosswalk feature lets you register your firm's benchmark framework. API responses return results mapped to your classifications.

Why not just download from publicpay.ca.gov?

The raw SCO CSVs require 15+ hours of cleaning per study: free-text titles with no standard taxonomy, no classification, no cross-year normalization, no benefits itemization, and no peer scoring. CalComp Data adds AI classification, title normalization, CalPERS cross-referencing, and instant API access on top of the raw data.

What are the contract terms?

Annual commitment billed at the start of each year. Non-renewal requires 60 days written notice. No auto-renewal without consent. Upon cancellation, your custom taxonomy crosswalks and classification corrections are exportable.

What if there's a data error?

All data traces to authoritative government sources and is warranted to match source publications. We provide error reporting via API with a 48-hour triage commitment. Your firm retains full responsibility for methodology and analytical conclusions.

What uptime and SLA do you offer?

99.9% API uptime target. SCO data imported within 14 days of publication. 24-hour business day response for standard subscribers, same-day for founding partners. Reported data errors triaged within 48 hours.

Is there a trial period?

We offer a free 90-day pilot with a rate-limited API key (100 rows per request, all endpoints). Enough to evaluate data quality and coverage for your use cases before committing to an annual subscription.
